Smok RPM 25W Review – a Discreet Vape Pen!

In 2024 we are witnessing a shift away from disposables back to beginner and intermediate pod kits offering a more sustainable and longer-lasting vape kit type at a much better price.

For years now, brands like Smok have offered devices such as the RPM range to create a mouth-to-lung (MTL) experience which replicates the sensation of smoking and also is very easy to operate. Today we’re reviewing the RPM 25W, a throwback kit which provides a decent performance with very minimal fuss.

The Look and Feel of the Smok RPM 25W

In terms of the design and build quality, we think Smok has done a great job by creating an ergonomic vape kit which feels great in the hand. This is mainly because of the comfortable plastic leather material on the back panel, creating a nice grip. We love how the pod easily clicks into place and holds firmly, with no rattle whatsoever.

Another bonus is the spin dial for adjustable airflow, which is a lovely little feature and can be tweaked to find the right airflow to match the LP1 mesh coils

Because it’s an auto-draw device where you don’t need to press a button to inhale, it adds convenience for those vaping on the go.

The mouthpiece, also known as a drip tip in vaping lingo, is non-removable, and the coils push to fit at the base of the pod

Looking at the display, we believe it could be a bigger screen or clearer, with no function to adjust the brightness. For those with vision impairment issues, you may struggle to see the wattage.

How is the Battery Life?

There are absolutely no complaints about the battery life from us! With a 900mAh battery capacity, it’s more than enough for a full day of charge.

Considering the size of the device, it’s impressive that Smok can design and fit an internal battery of that capacity in such a thin vape pen-style kit. With a USB type-c charging port at the base, it can be recharged in a couple of hours.

Using the Smok RPM 25W – Easy or Difficult?

This depends on what you want from your vape kit. Generally, it’s designed with easy use in mind, but the setup could be a bit more straightforward.

For example, it’s supposed to be three clicks to enter the menu mode to adjust the wattage and one more click to increase the wattage in 1W increments. But on occasion when testing, it struggles to change the wattage after pressing the initial three clicks. In summary, it could be a little more intuitive.

However, beginners may find it’s an easy alternative to smoking because it’s auto-draw and the shape is thin like a pen.

Filling the device is easy because the port is big enough, but a top-fill method would be even easier in hindsight. We wouldn’t recommend this device for direct lung vaping due to the low wattage, but it’s a very easy loose mtl draw with airflow wide open at a medium wattage.

Quick Setup Guide

  1. Five clicks of the fire button to turn the device on or off.
  2. To reset the puff counter hold the button below the display screen till it blinks, press once again to reset, and if you change your mind press a third time while it’s still blinking to go to the original setting.
  3. Adjust the airflow by turning the dial.
  4. Add a couple of drops to the coil to prime it and then get the base of the coil lined up with the connections at the bottom of the pod and slot the coil into the base.

 Verdict

There are some good and bad points with the device, with design features that stand out and performance setbacks which are a little disappointing. To begin with, we love the build quality and think it’s a nice little device for beginners. It provides a small amount of vapour and the battery capacity is a good size.

It vapes a smooth MTL draw, which can be adjusted thanks to the cool airflow dial design. But the flavour potential is a little bit lacking and because the maximum wattage is 25W, there is only so much oomph you can get from the device. Because it can’t be vaped directly to the lungs, it caters to primarily beginners and intermediate vapers.

Overall, we like how it looks and feels in the hand, and works well enough considering the generous price point. For someone just starting out with vaping or seeking a handy backup, the Smok RPM 25W might be the winning ticket!
